From the Manufacturer
Graco locking clip is for installation of car seats in vehicles with shoulder/lap belts that have a sliding latch plate, so it can minimize movement of the latch plate to assist in a snug fit for your car seat.
A locking clip minimizes the movement of the plate part of the seat belt which clicks into the buckle. On some seat belts these "latch plates," as they are commonly referred to, slide freely on the belt strap and so it is necessary to use a locking clip to get as snug a fit for your child car seat. All Graco child car seats with integrated harness systems come with a locking clip but it can be a good idea to buy an extra one or two for your other automobiles. Buyer Reviews
This operates with all typical automobile seat belts, and all brands of youngster car seats. YOU Need to HAVE THIS if you own an older car and have a lap/shoulder belt-mounted youngster automobile seat or auto seat base! YOU DO NOT Will need THIS if you use the LATCH mounting program. In most older vehicles, with a mixture lap/shoulder belt, regardless of what sort of retractor or locking mechanism the car has, if you don't use a locking clip (or if you have one particular and attach it to the incorrect component of the belt, as I did till an individual explained it) and you have an accident--or even just brake hard or turn to attempt to keep away from an accident--your automobile seat or vehicle seat base will most likely pull the slack out of the lap portion of the belt and will get further slack from the belt that goes up to the shoulder mount. What this looks like is the seat tilts away from the side where the shoulder belt anchor is, and toward the front of the car, producing a twisting motion which is unsafe to the child's back and neck. What you want is (assuming your automobile seat or base is already strapped in securely initially) to lock the shoulder belt to the seat belt Between THE TWO LAP ANCHORS, rendering the shoulder component of the belt irrelevant, which also keeps that unsafe slack away from the lap belt. This is the best and simplest style for this clip...just a flat piece of metal cut in a shape that allows the middle of two flat webbing straps (seat belts, in this case) to be slid in from one side, with both belts finding tucked below the "ears" that stick out at each ends, and the middle bar staying on the other side of the belts. Most auto seats are supplied with 1 of these (look underneath or on the back of the seat for the place exactly where one would be stored when not in use). IF YOU DID NOT GET One particular OF THESE WITH YOUR Vehicle SEAT OR Car SEAT BASE, THIS COULD BE THE Most effective Acquire YOU EVER Produced.
I am sick of seeing critiques exactly where a person posts that you don't require 1 of these locking clips if your auto has LATCH. Confident, you do not have to have a locking clip with LATCH, BUT, LATCH has a weight limit. check your car's manual! We practice extended rearfacing and extended harnessing. My son is at the moment five years old and in a Graco Nautilus and nevertheless in a 5 point harness and we have to use seatbelts considering that he bypassed the weight limit for LATCH. (Ordinarily 40 or 48 pounds based on your car.)
